Stphanie Frappart became the first woman to take charge of a men's World Cup game when she blew her whistle to start Germany's game against Costa Rica. Frappart had two women as assistants, Neuza Back of Brazil and Karen Medina of Mexico, to complete an all-female refereeing team. The offside specialist in the video review team was from the United States and she worked at the Al Bayt Stadium. There are two other women on the list to referee games at the tournament. Frappart was the fourth official. The French woman was promoted to the men's game by European soccer body UEFA and in her home country, she has already taken charge of men's games. She was in charge of the men's French Cup final and the Women's World Cup final. The fact that this may be the last world cup for many of our legendary footballers is one of the reasons this is special.
